When?
May 7 – 9, 2021
“A world that dares to care, and a world where care is placed at the center of political discourse will be a better world, a more united world.” This is what the #daretocare campaign believes. But what path does human society still have to take to put care at the center of politics and our actions as citizens? How can we overcome the spiral of individualism, broaden our gaze and dare to take care of the common good? This is will be the main topic of the Dare to Care International Conference, a three-day event in which citizens and politicians, as in an online open forum, will be able to think, discuss and work together to find remedies for the many pathologies of our society…
The convention has three aims: discover, connect and activate. Friday will be a chance to dive deeper to discover what Dare to Care means in various contexts economics, migration, communication and art – exploring the journey of #daretocare through stories, ideas and initiatives from the last year. Saturday will be a chance to connect locally and globally with local events of Dare to Care all over Europe and beyond. Sunday will be a chance to activate the next stage of the #daretocare journey which will focus on care for our environment and the planet.

Care and Prosocial Communication: how to understand those who make caring hard
17.30-18.50 CEST
What do we do when a person makes life difficult for us? Even with people we love and care for, we may have difficult or challenging conversations. We may not always understand what the other person really wants, or why this person thinks in a particular way. To take care of each other, first, we have to take care of ourselves, take responsibility for understanding what is our part in a communication process. Not everything is black or white, there are always grey areas and our contribution can be essential to generate real, effective, non-paternalistic interpersonal relationships that promote the self-esteem, identity and creativity of the person we want to help and care for. The session is interactive and the participant is expected to join a vibrant discussion.
Session facilitator: Pilar Escotorin, Associate Professor of Autonomous University of Barcelona and Prosocial Coach.

This idea of an accessible environment – a world in which no one, regardless of their physical or cognitive condition, encounters any more architectural or technological or social barriers that affect their mobility, limit their relationships, and prevent their full realization as persons and as citizens – can no longer be confined to utopia. Today, this must become a reality: this is a prerequisite for the realization of an inclusive society.
