“Time to Dare”: It’s Time to Dare, It’s Time to Give

On 21 and 22 January, Caserta will be hosting “Time to Dare”, a hackathon and forum to digitally spread the culture of giving.

Daring and giving, it all comes from this: from the wish to boost the mechanism of support and solidarity that many people already practice on a daily basis, for the benefit of people in need. Why? To develop new ways to give and relate to others that can provide joy and peace of mind. To involve young people with creativity, offering them the tools to establish a real culture of giving, a circular economy of solidarity that allows people to turn dreams into reality.

Time to Dare is an ambitious project that aims to create a web platform to allow people to digitally donate surplus or discarded items for the benefit of those who need them, absolutely for free.

More specifically, all this will culminate in a two-day event in Caserta on 21 and 22 January 2020. It will start with a hackathon – i.e., for laypeople, a sort of computer “marathon” – during which programmers, developers, experts and programming and web operators, divided into teams and tables, will join forces to create a web platform to promote the circular economy, to encourage the recovery of goods that can still be used, reducing the amount of waste to be disposed of. The “Time to Dare” Hackathon will take place at the innovation hub of Caserta, 012 Factory,

Viale Carlo III di Borbone. The digital marathon will kick off at 10 a.m. on 21 January and will end at 10 a.m. on 22 January. The event is free and open to all those who have skills in software development, programming, graphics and who have studied social sciences or economics. The registration deadline is 2 January.

Then, on the afternoon of 22 January, the forum will begin at the Belvedere di San Leucio Monumental Complex: a time for dialogue, a real workshop of ideas, dedicated exclusively to young people who want to be daring, and work for the common good. This event will have two exceptional mentors, who will be sharing their life experiences: Sister Alessandra Smerilli, Economics Professor at Rome’s Auxilium Pontifical School of Social Sciences and Luigino Bruni, economist and journalist. Participants must register by 11 January. During the forum, the hackathon winners will receive an award.

“Time to Dare” has been officially included in the events that are part of “Towards the Economy of Francis“: a major international initiative that will take place in Assisi from March 26 to 28, where young economists, entrepreneurs and changemakers will be invited by Pope Francis to join forces to make our  economy more just, fraternal and sustainable. This event is also organized by the committee promoting the centennial celebration of the birth of Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement.
