Australia, France, EU call for Antarctic marine reserves
The proposal is to establish seven protected areas
(AGI) Sydney, Oct 21 – Australia, France and the European Union will insist on the creation of vast marine sanctuaries in the Antarctic at the upcoming annual meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).
They will reportedly propose the establishment of seven protected areas with a total surface area of 1.6 million square metres in which fishing is restricted.
