A few hundred metres from where the vote was taking place pro-Mursi supporters held a rare rally in Tahrir square. They still see him as Egypt’s only democratically elected leader.

The new constitution will replace the one signed into law by Islamist Mursi. It will also pave the way for new presidential and parliamentary elections.
